And if THAT’S not enough … how about federal stimulus money that claimed to create/save 473 teaching jobs in an Illinois district that only employs 290 teachers?

More than $4.7 million in federal stimulus aid so far has been funneled to schools in North Chicago, and state and federal officials say that money has saved the jobs of 473 teachers.

Problem is, the district employs only 290 teachers.

“That other number, I don’t know where that came from,” said Lauri Hakanen, superintendent of North Chicago Community Unit Schools District 187.

I am turning 14 next month and i neeeeeeeeeeeeed a job. I am so sick of asking my parents for money. Also a few years ago i got braids in my hair the the lady put them in so tight that my hair broke off. And now there is 1 big mess in the back of my head.And i really want a weave. My mom very much resents me getting a weave and proclaims that she will not pay for it. and im going 2 . IF I CAN GET A JOB!!!!!!! I will work my butt off if i have 2. But please please please can sum 1 suggest a place where i can get a job 4 a 14 year old!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

I am currently attending high school and I need a job. The hours I can work from start at(or after) 4:30 as I get out of school at 3:25. The problem with that is that it already eliminates many job opportunities because many places close at 5~6 pm.

So my question is this, being a high school student, where would be a good place to apply for a job? Pay isn’t that big of a deal because I am still a student and I don’t expect anything with great pay, but if the place gives better pay than others I will of course consider it much more than others =D.

If possible, in your answer could you please include the time the place closes and what the starting pay would be.

p.s. if it is any help I live in Illinois near Chicago, and yes I am over 16.
Also would like to add that I am good with people and even if a customer is being a jerk I know to keep my cool and to always be polite.

I can also do heavy lifting if required.

To the first 2 people that have responded, it isn’t that I can’t find a job. I have found 3-10 jobs I can take, but I have no clue which ones are actually viable jobs, as I heard that some of the companies treat their employees like crap. Which frankly I don’t want to put up.

Also, I would like to thank the sears man for that advice as I was actually looking for a cashier position at a sears. I will listen to your advice, but I will also look more into why sears (or whatever company anyone posts) is bad/good because everyone has different experiences with different jobs.
17 years old and I have a car..

I got an inheritance, got laid off, spent it on drugs, didn’t get a job…crashed and burned. I’m middle class, otherwise together, good work history, credit’s not bad. I can’t get a co-signer, and I’m living in a pay-by-the-week hotel. What are my chances of getting a studio-1 bedroom that’s not a slum? I’m a white male.

I’m not necessarily asking for a job but I need to know how I could find one in my area. Im currently 13 and I need a part time job on afternoon on saturdays and any time sunday. Im asking like for job listing for my area ( Aurora, Illinois) let that be mowing lawns or washing dishes I wont mind.

I go to University Of Illinois in Chicago. Planning on majoring in Chem and going to med school. But, I am also planning on working for few years before med school. In which science should I major in that guarantees a job after college.

My name is Devin Adams-Barton, I work at a Public Aide accepting clinic in Taylorville Illinois. One of very few practices that accepts medic aide for both adults and children around in Illinois. And we do a good job also. We are friendly, compassionate, and very patient with every person who walks in our doors. Dr. Paul Pladziewicz, who is the dentist here has over 28 years in the dental field and has attended/graduated from Northwestern Dental School, University of Massachusetts, and some others. Almost every patient who has come through the doors to date has said something good about him. May it be that he is the best they have ever been to, or that they felt little to no pain at all. And the complements about the office staff are always good also. People have told me that other offices and staff they have been to, or interacted with in the past have been…. not so good.

What I am trying to get at here is how would I (or Dr. Paul) go about getting money from the government for this community service we are offering. Dr. Paul has put almost everything financially that he has into this. Finding a place to use as an office, buying all the instruments, x-ray machines, dental chairs, equipment, and everything else that went into starting up this office.

I’m just looking for help for him and us at the office.

And if anyone asks, “why don’t more Dentists accept the public aide card in Illinois?”

It’s simple. Public Aide does not pay the full amount for services that a private insurance, or private patient with cash would pay. The Illinois Public Aide office, or whoever takes care of what money goes where in what instance, does not pay enough to Dentists that could just take patients willing to pay cash or have some private insurance pay for it.

It is a large amount that is not paid to Dentists. Thats the reason most Dentists of Illinois do not accept it.

And it is not like pennies less. It is a significant amount less. Sometimes 100’s of dollars less.

Once again, thats why most dentists do not accept it.

And the demand for a dentist that does accept it is overwhelming.

Sometimes we get 40 to 60 patients a day here at the office.

I dont know. It is all very confusing sometimes if you do not understand or are not well informed.

Hi. I’m a junior in high school and thinking about colleges already. I want to go to a small liberal arts school, and want to be a librarian some day. So hopefully I’ll major in something like Literature and minor in Linguistics. Here are some of my statistics:

Current Rank: 32 in a class of 235

8th Grade High School classes: 1 A 1 B

9th Grade Classes: 4 As’ 3 B’s (1 B was an IB History class, which was weighted)

10th Grade classes: 6 1/2 As 1/2 B (The 1/2 B was for a semester class)

Here are my activities: SCA, Green Team, Latin Club, Model United Nations, Spanish Club, Spanish National Honor Society.
I also volunteer giving tours at a historic house and have a once-a-week babysitting job.

I got a cumulative score of about 1300 on the PSATs last year, and this year’s results haven’t been released yet, but I probably did better.

I live in Virginia, but I want to go to a small liberal arts school, so the only school in Virginia I’d want to apply to would be William and Mary. But William and Mary is a really competitive school to get into and I don’t know if I could get in.

Other schools I’d like to apply to are Bryn Mawr in Pennsylvania, Swarthmore, also in Pennsylvania, Tufts, in Massachusetts, Amherst, also in Massachusetts, University of Chicago in Illinois.

My problem is that I don’t know if I could get into any of these places! I’m not sure if I’m aiming to high, but I can’t think of any “back-up” schools.

Do you think I could reasonably get into these places? I know I have a high GPA, but those places are really competitive.

Do you have any recommendations of other schools I might be interested in?

I can’t believe how hard it is to find a job here in the Chicago area. I know it’s hard just about everywhere, but this is rediculous. What’s even more rediculous is the way potential employers are treating applicants, making us jump through hoops. Employer edicate is non existent. I am working now, but they do not have enough hours to work me full time. What’s funny is because I have a job and am looking for one, employers seem to be looking at me like it’s my falt they don’t have hours to give. They ask questions like “what, can’t they give you more hours or find another location for you?” I have applied at some joke jobs like Walmart and have not gotten call backs from them either. It’s so annoying. How is it NOT discrimination to not call someone back because they are “over qualified?”

What are some jobs and salaries in Cairo, Illinois from 1880-1920 compared to now.
