Divorce: Job outside Illinois and moving out of state with the kids?
I am a divorced dad with kids. Right now my ex and I have joint custody over the kids. Her parents live outside Illinois. She wanted to move back to her parents after the divorce but couldn’t do so because Illinois doesn’t permit her to move out of state as I live there also.
Now, the problem is this. There is a possibility that I might lose my job and I might find a job outside Illinois. If I live at my job location (outside Illinois) over the weekdays and come back to Illinois during the weekends to be with the kids, does this considered abandoning Illinois residency? Can she leave the state with the kids? I have few reasons why I don’t want her to move in with her parents. One of them being the schools. The kids are going to very good schools here in Illinois and where she wants to move, the schools are completely pathetic.
