I ‘ve been into them my entire life 2, Your probly better than me at identifying them The only ones I can identify are the Dash 8s and 9 and the Amtrak P42s but this may sound weird even if I don’t know what engine it is I can still tell what railroad is pulling the train by the sound of the horn.

Usually, so can I. Once, UP threw a curveball at me with a freight that had a K5LA on it, but other than that, I can usually tell also, so it’s nothing wierd. I can tell either by the sound of the horn or how loud it is, since I live within earshot of both Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern.lol

Well around Streator there’s lot’s of tracks so it is pretty much the same way and on the BNSF usually only three railroads make appearances and those are BNSF, NS an UP we see CSX once in a blue moon and the rest of the tracks in Streator are only used a few times a day.
